The Road to Becoming the Fastest Growing Private College in North Carolina
Chowan University is a private liberal arts institution located in Murfreesboro, NC, an area of the state that locals refer to as the Inner Banks. Surrounded by small agrarian communities, and 45 minutes from I-95, Chowan is definitely off the beaten path, but as they put it, “only an hour from anywhere.” Originally founded in 1848 as Chowan Baptist Female Institute, a 4-year women’s college, the school became Chowan College in 1910, and began enrolling male students in 1931. On the heels or the Great Depression, the school became a 2-year institute in 1937 but returned to four-year status in 1992.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Man & Woman of the Year (MWOY) campaign is a fundraising competition in communities across the U.S. in which participants vie for the title of Man or Woman of the Year. The titles are awarded to the men and women in each community who raise the most funds during the ten-week campaign; the top local fundraisers in the country also win the national titles.

As an enrollment professional, you must recognize that the more directly you can communicate with prospective students in a meaningful manner, the more quickly you are able to develop engagement with those students to build a relationship. In this email we want to discuss the different ways you can tailor your communications to enhance your recruitment efforts and enroll more of the “right fit” students at your institution.
Let’s Start with Segmentation
At a minimum, it is relatively easy to segment your search or applicant pool based on certain variables that are part of the student record. For instance, you probably already communicate with certain student groups based on their majors or their stage in the enrollment process.
This segmentation allows targeting specific messages to specific groups, and it certainly has benefits compared to sending the one message to your whole list. One aspect of this approach that often makes it a good choice is that it does not require much data to execute effectively. As long as you have an attribute that will support your message, then this approach can be an efficient improvement to your communication flow and engagement potential.
